PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an aqueous dispersion of a pigment, having fluidity and storage stability, luster of a film, clarity, coloring power, and the like same as an oil paint and an oil-based ink. SOLUTION: This method for producing the aqueous dispersion of a pigment comprises (1) a step for making a solid chip by kneading a pigment with a water-soluble resin or a water-dispersible resin having >=0 deg.C Tg, if necessary, with water and/or a water-miscible organic solvent by twin rolls, (2) a step for dispersing a solid chip in the aqueous medium, and (3) a step for further dispersing the obtained dispersing elements by a media type disperser.
