The furnace has an input zone with flue gases flowing over incoming workpieces or materials. There is an array of jet burners in the roof of the furnace, firing downward onto the workpieces. The burners have air and gas entering through separate inlets (8,9) and mixing in a chamber (10) with walls made of ceramic material.
