A method and apparatus for updating a precoder coefficients having a duplicate precoder (440) and a correction filter (450) in a receiver, where the correction filter (450) generates incremental coefficients. The incremental coefficients are sent via a back channel (140) to a transmitter and added to the current values of the precoder coefficients. The method and apparatus provide decision feedback equalizer like performance and do not have the delay problems associated with decision feedback equalizers.
