PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a piston furnished at the peripheral edge with a cylindrical part extending in the axial direction, in which the friction performance of the piston portion making frictional coupling with other member is enhanced. SOLUTION: This piston 2 is installed in a space between the front cover of a torque converter and a turbine and is capable of moving in the axial direction with a change in the hydraulic pressure. The piston 2 has a disc part 11, ring part 12, and cylinder part 13. The ring part 12 is formed at the periphery of the disc part 11 to make frictional engagement with other member. The cylinder part 13 is formed at the peripheral edge of the ring part 13 extending in the axial direction toward the turbine. A torsion spring is installed inside the cylinder part 13 and the outside in radial direction is supported thereby 13. The rigidity of the ring part 12 is lowered by forming a notch 14 in the cylinder part 13.
