PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a tertiary aryl amine polymer in high yield under a mild condition from easily obtainable or producible starting material by carrying out an oxidation polymerization of a specific aryl amine under the presence of ferric chloride. SOLUTION: The subject polymer of formula II (n>0) is obtained by carrying out the oxidation polymerization of (A) the tertiary aryl amine of formula I [R is a (substituted)aryl, a lower alkyl], (for example; triphenyl amine) in the presence of (B) the oxidant, ferric chloride(FeCl3) in the molar ratio of the component (A): the component (B) is 1:0.05 to 1:20 preferably, 1:1 to 1:10 in (C) a solvent (for example, chloroform) at -20 deg.C to the boiling point of the solvent for at least 30 minutes. The yield of the dimer of the tertiary aryl amine is enhanced by reacting the component (A) and the component (B) in the molar ratio of about 1:4 to 1:6, at 0 to 40 deg.C for 0.5 to 2 hours. |
