PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To retrieve a working fluid without contaminating the surrounding area with splashing fluid when the fluid is drawn out of a hydraulic shock absorber to be disposed of. SOLUTION: By holding members 8 and 9, the end of a cylinder part 1A of a hydraulic shock absorber 1 and the end of a piston rod 1B are held in such a way that the cylinder part 1A and piston rod 1B are tiltable or turnable and that at least either one of them is movable in the axial direction relative to the other. These holding members enable the cutting of the cylinder part 1A by a cutter 11 at any section other than that which confronts the piston rod and piston of the shock absorber 1.
