PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an improved gas generator for a vehicle occupant restaint system in which fluid election is controllable and improved. SOLUTION: This gas generator 10 for a safety device especially an occupant restraint system includes a combustion chamber 12 filled by the propulsive medicine in which a high temperature gas is generated after the ignition and combustion of the propulsive medicine 34, a fluid chamber 14 including the fluid and a mixture chamber 16 in which the fluid is mixed with the high temperature gas. The gas generator 10 has at least one control device 18 for controlling the mixing rate of the fluid in the mixing chamber 16 with the high temperature gas.
