PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To mainly miniaturize a muffler by forming a part of an end wall for blocking one end of a shell into a hollowed double wall structure consisting of an inner wall and an outer wall, assembling a control valve to the inner wall and forming a connecting hole for an exhaust outflow pipe to constitute the cavity between the inner wall and the outer wall as a communicating chamber. SOLUTION: A pair of separators 14, 15 is arranged within a muffler body 1 formed of an end wall 12 for blocking one end of a cylindrical shell 11 and an end wall 13 for blocking the other end thereof to partition the internal space of the muffler body 1 into three noise reducing chambers 1a-1c. A swollen part 12a is formed on a part of the end wall 12, a lid plate 12b for covering the swollen part 12a is mounted on the inner surface thereof, and a part of the end wall 12 is formed into a hollowed double wall structure consisting of the lid plate 12b as an inner wall and the swollen part 12a as an outer wall. A control valve 5 is assembled to the lid plate 12b, and the connecting hole 4a of an exhaust outflow pipe 4 is formed to constitute the cavity between the double walls as a communicating chamber 1b. According to this, the volume of each noise reducing chamber 1a-1c is increased to improve the silencing performance.
