PURPOSE:To increase the spacing between carbon layers and to obtain a useful carbonaceous material by heat-treating a non-benzene condensed polycyclic aromatic halide. CONSTITUTION:A non-benzene condensed polycyclic aromatic compd. such as decacyclene is halogenated at 150-300 deg.C for 20min to 4hr with gaseous chlorine, etc., to obtain the halide. The halide is heated to 600-1500 deg.C at the rate of 5-50 deg.C/min in an inert gas atmosphere or in vacuum to obtain the heat-treated material. A nonbenzenoid carbonaceous material with the spacing (doo2) between carbon layers obtained by the powder X-ray diffraction method controlled to >=3.80Angstrom is produced from the heat-treated material. |
