PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an A/D converter where time required for conversion is considerably shortened and the reliability of a conversion value can be improved. SOLUTION: An error possibility bit judgment circuit 11 sequentially compares the data value of a 0-th bit in data obtained by A/D-converting an input signal AIN with the data value of a higher bit and judges the bit whose data value differs at first as an error possibility bit. A comparison/decision circuit 12 terminates a conversion processing when the digit position of the error possibility bit is lower than the digit position of a permission error bit which is set as a permission error range by a user. When it is higher than the digit position of the permission error bit, the input signal AIN is A/D-converted by a successive conversion circuit 1.
