PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the efficiency of dictionary retrieval by preferentially displaying the same reading data as a stored reading character string and corresponding semantic data in the case that the plural reading data corresponding to an index word are present. SOLUTION: In the case of performing notation retrieval, a retrieval program 43 makes a CPU 20 execute the procedure of reading the index word matched with a KANJI (Chinese character) character string and the reading data and the semantic data stored in relation with it and storing them in a display character string storage buffer 35. Relating to the index word for which retrieval is succeeded by the retrieval program 43, in the case that the plural reading data corresponding to it are present, a rearrangement program 45 makes the CPU 20 execute the procedure of replacing the orders of the display of the plural reading data so as to preferentially display the reading data and the semantic data corresponding to the reading data at a display means 16 in the case that the reading data matched with the reading character string stored in a reading character string storage buffer 34 are present. Thus the efficiency of the dictionary retrieval is improved.
