PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paper supply mechanism of a printer capable of reducing the number of part items and cost and detecting an amount of remaining paper sheets surely by detecting the presence or absence of paper sheet and a remaining amount of paper sheets by one mechanism. SOLUTION: This paper supply mechanism of a printer is provided with a paper supply cassette 10 accumulating and storing cut papers 2, a lift plate 11 which is arranged in the paper supply cassette 10, has a drop hole 14, loads the cut paper 2, and rotates centered on a rotary shaft 12 to energize the cut paper 2 upward, a cut paper take-out mechanism 20 taking the cut paper 2 out of the paper supply cassette 10, a cut paper detection member 30 which can move in the vertical direction, whose tip part comes into contact with a top face of the cut papers 2 accumulated usually, and which drops in the drop hole 14 of the lift plate 11 when the cut paper 2 is terminating, and a sensor detecting a position of the cut paper detection member 30.
