<p>An apparatus (10) and methods of manufacturing seamless gaskets (11) using expanded intercalated graphite worms. An annular die cavity (30) has a central column (32) with a charge inlet (36) in a perimeter wall (38). A source (12, 14, 20) communicating with the charge inlet (36) in the cavity (30) deposits a charge of expanded intercalated graphite worms within the cavity (30). An upper pusher (54), for compressing a first charge (97) of graphite, is movable from a first position distally spaced from an open end (41) of the cavity (30) to a second position within the cavity (30), during which a lower pusher (64) is movable from a first position to a second position in the cavity (30). The upper pusher (54) causes the lower pusher (64) to move to the second position so that a second charge (100) of the graphite is received in substantially the same volume as the first charge (97) to form a seamless gasket (11).</p> |
