PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and readily separate and recover a heavy metal component such as a cadmium component and a lead component contained in a cement dust and reduce the concentration of the heavy metal component in waste water to a lower value than the regulation value. SOLUTION: This method for treating a cement dust comprises separating a liquid of a slurry obtained by washing the cement dust with water from a solid, regulating the liquid separated by the solid-liquid separation to pH 7-9, then adding a sulfurizing agent 31, insolubilizing a heavy metal component contained in the liquid, providing a solid material, further converting the liquid into a slurry 33, separating a liquid from the resultant slurry 33, providing a concentrate therefrom, separating a concentrate obtained by separating the liquid from the slurry prepared by washing the cement dust with water, mixing both the concentrates and separating the resultant mixture into a solid and a liquid. Furthermore, the apparatus for treating the cement dust is provided.
