PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately set the timing of the fuel injection while applying superior startability in an internal combustion engine. SOLUTION: An NE pulser which insues a pulse signal at every time when a diesel engine rotates at 11.25 deg. CA. The end rotation angleθp to end the injection of the fuel to the diesel engine is set (step 250) based on various moving states of the diesel engine. The remainder angle angrew of the set end rotation angleθp is computed (step 252). The rotation speed of the diesel engine is estimated (step 258) based on the temperature THW of the cooling water flowing in the diesel engine. The time TSP required for the diesel engine 10 to rotate by the remainder angle angrew is computed (step 262).
