PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a battery having improved safety in erroneous use such as overcharging or under an abnormally high temperature environment as in the case the battery is thrown into a fine. SOLUTION: This battery is provided with a sealing plate 7 having a vent hole 6, a terminal 8 arranged to surround the vent hole 6, and an elastic valve element 9 arranged in the compressed state to block the vent hole 6 in the space surrounded by the sealing plate 7 and the terminal 8. The elastic valve element 9 is provided with a groove section kept in contact with the sealing plate 7 astride the peripheral edge of the vent hole 6 of the sealing plate 7.
