The case completely covers a modern key which has no shaft or neck. The inserted key is uncovered through a slot by pressing against the cylinder so that a slider slides back. When the key is removed from the cylinder, the case returns to its original position. Additionally, electronic circuitry may be integrated in the case mechanism. In this case, an electronic detector would enable the movement of the slider.
