PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new phenylenediamine derivative having excellent antilipid peroxide actions and inhibiting actions on an acyl-CoA: cholesterol acyltransferase (ACAT) in combination. SOLUTION: This compound is represented by formula I [R1 is amino, a 1-6C alkylamino or the like; R2 is a 1-6C alkyl or the like; R3 and R4 are each H or a 1-6C alkyl; R5 is a (substituted) phenyl or a (substituted) pyridyl], e.g. N-(2-butoxy-4-dimethylaminophenyl)-N'-[2,2-dimethyl-1-(3-pyridyl)propy l]urea. The compound represented by formula I is obtained by reacting, e.g. a compound represented by formula II (R1a is a group in which the amino group is protected in R1) in the presence of a base with hydrogen azide, providing a compound represented by formula III, then reacting the resultant compound represented by formula III with an amino compound represented by formula IV in an inert solvent (e.g. benzene) preferably at 0-150 deg.C, affording a compound represented by formula V and removing the protecting group of the amino group in the compound represented by formula V according to a publicly known method. |
