PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject preparation capable of improving the percutaneous absorbability of vidarabine and manifesting excellent handleability and feeling of use by formulating the vidarabine which is an antiviral agent in a specific cream base. SOLUTION: This cream agent is obtained by including vidarabine as an active ingredient and consists essentially of 0.05-5 wt.% of the vidarabine, 3-20 wt.% of a higher alcohol (e.g. cetostearyl alcohol or octyldodecanol), 3-15 wt.% of a humectant (e.g. glycerol or propylene glycol), 3-20 wt.% of fatty acid esters (e.g. diisopropyl adipate or isopropyl myristate), 0.1-15 wt.% of an emulsifying agent (e.g. a glycerol ester of a fatty acid or a sorbitan ester of a fatty acid) and water. Thereby, the resultant cream agent has ultrahigh clinical effects due to excellent releasability and percutaneous absorbability of the drug and is capable of manifesting sufficient effects even in a small amount, excellent in feeling of use, or the like, and effective in treating herpes zoster, herpes labialis, or the like.
