PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain gravity-type structural members simply, efficiently and economically and to utilize wastes effectively by a method wherein the wastes are housed in a container produced beforehand and after compaction is made at the wastes in the container, the container is sealed up. SOLUTION: Wastes such as reinforced concrete lumps disposed as construction wastes are crushed into sizes adaptable for housing and housed in a container 3 that is to become a structural member 2 for a gravity-type structure, and gaps in the container are filled tightly with ashes obtained after incineration of urban garbage or the like and after compaction is made, the container 3 is sealed up with a lid 4 or the like and formed as an integrated unit. The container 3 is such that is made of reinforced concrete or the like and resistive against compaction of the wastes and desirable to be cubical shape so that gaps may not be formed between the containers when piled up. On an occasion, for instance, when a large-sized earth retaining wall is constructed, the structural members 2 are installed in a plurality of rows or tiers on the structural center line of the gravity-type structure and with scaffoldings erected around the structural members 2 and forms erected at specified positions, concrete is placed in the forms. Thereby, the amount of concrete to be placed for construction of the gravity-type structure can be reduced greatly.
