PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording or reproducing device for image information which records a moving image and records a desired scene also as a still image. SOLUTION: Record data inputted by an input means 17 is compressed as data for a moving image by an encoder 11 and when a signal is inputted from an operation button 16, a scene at a point of time when the signal is inputted is compressed also as data for a still image and is outputted to a memory 12. A timing setting circuit 13 reads the data for a moving image and the data for a still image from the memory according to an instruction from a controlling part, produces a timing signal which is for recording the data for a moving image and the data for a still image synchronizing with a synchronizing signal from a synchronizing signal generation circuit 8, and outputs it to a magnetic head driving circuit 14 and a laser driving circuit 15. The magnetic head drive circuit and the laser driving circuit drive, based on the timing signal, semiconductor lasers in a magnetic head 2 and an optical pickup 3 and record the data for a moving image and the data for a still image on a magneto-optical recording medium 1.
