An in-line skate comprises an upper foot receiving member and a lower skate portion thereunder. The skate portion comprises a chassis and front and rear sets of wheels, the sets of front and rear wheels being spaced such that the lower end of the foot receiving member extends longitudinally between the front and rear sets of wheels. The rear set of wheels comprises a single rear wheel, whereas the front set of wheels comprises first and second front wheels. Typically, the first front wheel which is disposed in front of the second front wheel is positioned on the chassis such as to be slightly spaced from a skate supporting surface when the second front wheel and the rear wheel are both in contact with this supporting surface. The rear wheel has a larger diameter than that of the first and second front wheels such that the axis joining the rotational axes of the rear wheel and the second front wheel, i.e. the closest to the rear wheel, is inclined.
