PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a transparent FR thermoplastic composition having an FR material (flame-retardant) in an extremely high ratio. SOLUTION: A polyhalogenated trimethylphenylindane contained in this plastic composition is a mixture of polyhalogenated trimethylphenylindanes each having 3 to 9 halogen atoms. Bromine or a combination of bromine and chlorine may be used as the halogen atom. A transparent plastic is selected from a polycarbonate, a polymethyl methacrylate, a polystyrene, a styrene- acrylonitrile copolymer and a polyvinyl chloride. The polyhalogenated trimethylphenylindane is contained in the ratio of <= about 40% by weight. A transparent plastic flame-retardant material is prepared by compounding a plastic material with the polyhalogenated trimethylphenylindane in an amount effective for providing flame retardance.
