PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a sulfinic ester compound in high yield by reacting a sulfonyl chloride compound with a hydroxy compound in the presence of a base and a triarylphosphine compound. SOLUTION: (C) A sulfonyl chloride compound represented by formula II [R is a 1-10C alkyl, a (substituted) 3-10C cycloalkyl or the like] (e.g. methanesulfonyl chloride) is reacted with (D) a hydroxy compound represented by the formula R1OH [R1 is a (substituted) 1-10C alkyl, a (substituted) 3-10C cycloalkyl or the like] in the presence of (A) a base (e.g. triethylamine) and (B) a triarylphosphine compound represented by formula I [W1 to W3 are each a (substituted)phenyl] (e.g. triphenylphosphine), preferably at -50 to +150 deg.C for 0.1-1,000 h to thereby produce (E) a compound represented by formula III (e.g. ethyl p-toluenesulfinate). The components A and B are preferably used in respective amounts of 1-10 mol equiv. based on the component C. |
