PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject foamed film that has a specific apparent density, manifests good water-solubility and is useful as an embroidery base material in the three-dimensional embroidery purpose by using a poly(vinyl alcohol) resin bearing a specific group. SOLUTION: This foamed film mainly is mainly composed of (A) an oxyalkylene group-containing poly(vinyl alcohol) resin and has an apparent density of 0.05-1.0 g/cm3. The component A is a poly(vinyl alcohol) resin containing a functional group represented by the formula (R1 and R2 are each H or an alkyl, preferably H; X is H, an alkyl), or alkyl ester, preferably H; n is an integer of 2-300) and is prepared, for example, by saponifying a vinyl ester (co)polymer in the presence of a polyoxyalkylene. The foamed film is obtained, for example, by admixing a foaming agent to the component A before the melt-extrusion of the component A mixed with a foaming agent. In the film formation, the apparent density of the foamed film is needed to be adjusted to 0.5-1.0 g/cm3.
