A polishing device for use on optical surfaces such as spectacle lenses The device comprises a support (1) and a membrane (2) with a top and a peripheral rim (3) integral with the support, and on the outer surface of which a surface grinding material can be fixed. The membrane (2) is composed of an elastomeric material within which are embedded two crossed blades (4,5) capable of elastic deformation, the uniformly spaced blade ends being each extended at the membrane (2) peripheral rim (3) by interlocking said membrane with the support. The support includes driving means along a direction of the blade to which they are linked hence modifying for each blade (4,5) the radius of curvature in a controlled manner.
