Static exercise and training cycle having driven aluminum inertia wheel with external magnetic retarder generating Foucault currents

The cycle comprises a base frame (1) with upright (1b) to support a seat. A connecting stirrup (14) supports the inertia wheel (203) and retarder (19). The retarder pivots on axis (20) to alter its position with respect to the rim of the wheel (203) to bring its permanent magnets (18) in varying distance from the rim. The aluminum wheel has a narrow center section and wider outer rim. The magnets (18) generate Foucault currents in the rim causing retarding forces which pedal actuation overcomes.
