A touch panel used for a liquid crystal display comprises a rigid electrode plate (21) constituted of a rigid transparent substrate (211) having a transparent conductive layer (212) formed on the top thereof and a flexible electrode plate (22) spaced from the rigid electrode plate and constituted of a flexible transparent substrate (221) having a transparent conductive layer (222) formed on the top thereof. To the top of the flexible electrode plate, a polarizing plate (24) is secured. The flexible transparent substrate (221) comprises a transparent film made of an amorphous plastic having a glass transition temperature of 100 DEG C or more. The transparent film has a relative photoelastic modulus Cr of 0.2 to 0.8, the relative optical elastic modulus being defined by a formula: Cr = C/Cpc (where C is the photoelastic modulus of the transparent film, and Cpc is the photoelastic modulus of a polycarbonate film of bisphenol A).
