ESTIMATION OF INFLUENCE OF STRESS ON EPIDERMAL CELL

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To estimate the influence of stress on epidermal cell by culturing an epidermal cell originated from mammal in the presence of a hormone such as glucocorticoid and using the variation of the manifestation amount of its MHC class II molecule, or the like as an index. SOLUTION: Epidermal cell of mammal is cultured in the presence of a hormone selected from glucocorticoid,β-endorphin, adrenaline and noradrenaline and the manifestation amount of major histocompatibility antigen (MHC) class II molecule or cytokine in the cultured epidermal cell is detected. The variation of the manifestation amount is used as an index of the extent of stress load to estimate as the increase in the manifestation amount of MHC class II molecule or cytokine and the suppression of the increase of manifestation amount is estimated as a state having mitigated influence of the stress on the epidermal cell to enable the estimation of the influence of the stress on the epidermal cell in vitro. The substance capable of preventing and ameliorating the lowering of the function of cell caused by glucocorticoid is useful as a preparation for external use for skin.
