Honeycomb body (1) has dividing walls (10) made of cordierite arranged in honeycomb form. A reinforcing section (2) stronger than the general section (19) is disposed at one end or both ends (11) in the longitudinal direction of the dividing walls (10). An Independent claim is also included for a process for production of a honeycomb body comprising forming a solution mixture (7) with which is mixed a material lowering the melting point of cordierite in a solvent, applying the solvent mixture to the end (11) of the body and calcining to form a reinforcing section (2) on the end which is stronger than the general section (19).
