The arrangement has a signal generator (6) and a switching element (7b) which conducts current in one direction and blocks current in the other direction. The switching element is connected to the supply voltage connections (30,32) so that when the supply connections are reversed it supplies a current which activates the signal generator. The signal generator and the switching element are connected in series. The switching element is a semiconducting diode and the signal generator can be a vehicle horn.
