<p>A color image reader which sets to a first color-dependent preset value an optical output from a light emitting diode of each color when a first optical output control means (23) controls, at color reading, a variable constant current circuit (7) in synchronization with a first lighting control means (21) and according to first reference data stored, by color, in a first storage means (25).
