PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader capable of precisely reading an image by preventing the generation of ghost light from a light non-shielding part where a black filter is not formed. SOLUTION: Relating to the image reader image-forming a luminous flux based on image information on an image surface illuminated by a light source means on the surface of a line sensor 7 by an image forming optical system through a slit arranged in the neighborhood of this original surface and reading image information by this sensor 7, the sensor 7 is provided with a photodetecting part 9 arraying plural photodetective elements 8 in a one- dimensional direction and a light shielding part 11 absorbing incident light provided outside of the part 9, and the expression of X/2<W/2/β-αis satisfied at the time of setting the width of the sub-scanning direction of the part 11 to be W, the magnification of an image forming optical system to beβ, the sub-scanning direction of a slit to be X and the relative aberration amount of a sub-scanning direction between the slit and the sensor 7 to beα.
