Vehicle shock absorber with passive damping

The shock absorber (40) has a work chamber (44) containing a piston (46) with main overflow valve (50) fixing an upper fluid chamber (64) and lower fluid chamber (66) which has a variable overflow between same with at least one overflow opening (102) for fluid connection between the two fluid chambers whereby the size of the overflow opening is changed by a passive control member (110). The control member is held by pretension springs in a rest position where the size of the overflow opening is maximum. Acceleration acting on the shock absorber engenders movement of the passive control member so that the size of the overflow opening is reduced and the damping of the shock absorber is increased.
