The invention concerns a sensing apparatus (11) comprising two sensors (18, 27), whereof one fine sensor (18) which is supported against a frame rim (1) groove base and which moves around its periphery to determine the shape thereof in space, and a second sensor (27) whereof the profile is combined with that of the bevelling grinder groove. The method consists in measuring therewith the difference in penetration between the tips of the two sensors at a common point in the groove, and the corresponding data are transmitted to the grinding machine for controlling the glass-carrying slide.
