PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the method and device for generating a multilevel bit-map font data capable of generating the multilevel bit-map font data of an arbitrary size from an existing multilevel bit-map font data. SOLUTION: This device is provided with a multilevel bit-map font storage part 11 for storing a basical multilevel bit-map font data composed of plural pixels, a weighting element generation part 12 for taking out the multilevel bit-map font data and generating a weighting element from the gray level of adjacent pixels according to the number of pixels to be displayed, and a display- purpose multilevel bit-map font generation part 17 for performing gradation- processing of the pixels to be displayed by using the weighting elements for each pixel.
