The method comprises (1) setting the measurement bandwidth to a preliminary width (21), (2) acquiring a set of measurements with that width (22), (3) comparing the measurements with a decision criteria (23-27), (4) adjusting the bandwidth (28), (5) acquiring further measurements and updating the set of measurements with these (29) (6) repeat from step (3) until a satisfaction of the decision criteria occurs. The decision criteria may be a limit contour or a maximum permissible measurement error specified by the user. An Independent claim is also included for the following: (1) A similar measurement method adjusting the number of measurement sweeps. (2) A similar measurement method adjusting the frequency locations of stimulus points.
