PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To constrain a child seat securely to a seat by use of an existing lock mechanism provided for a seat belt device. SOLUTION: This device is a seat belt device for an automobile wherein such a lock mechanism is provided that locks belt delivery from a retractor when the acceleration or deceleration of a car body reaches beyond a given value, and a child seat 10 can be constrained to a front passenger seat 1 by its own seat belt when this child seat 10 is disposed on the front passenger seat 1. This device is also provided with a child seat detecting means (a transmitting antenna 16, a transponder 15 and a receiving antenna 17) for detecting that the child seat 10 is disposed on the front passenger seat 1, and a lock control unit 18 for compelling the lock mechanism to perform a locking operation depending on the detected signal received from the child seat detecting means. |
