PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molten carbonate fuel cell having a long life by preventing the deposition of nickel into electrode plates which may be caused by the roughening of pores in an electrolyte-holding layer resulting from the growth of electrolyte holding particles, and thus avoiding a nickel short circuit. SOLUTION: This fuel cell has a fuel electrode 1 formed of a porous body made from first conductive power, an oxidizer electrode 2 formed of a porous body made from second conductive powder a fuel gas feeder for feeding fuel gas to the fuel electrode 1, an oxidizer gas feeder for feeding oxidizer gas to the oxidizer electrode 2, and an electrolyte plate 3 placed between the fuel electrode 1 and the oxidizer electrode 2 and having an electrolyte holding layer 3a composed chiefly of α-lithium aluminate and having a smaller average pore diameter than the average particle diameter of the second powder. |
