High carbon high chromium - nickel stainless steel being prepared by austenitizing at about 950 DEG C and furnace hardened. The composition of the steel is 0,6-1,2 wt.% C, 18-26 wt.% Cr, 2-4 wt.% Ni, 0-1 wt.% Mo, 0 wt.% Pb and < 0,6 wt.% Si.
