A wear resistant, vibration damping retainer consists of an elastomer, thermoplastic and/or natural rubber molding (1) with a high molecular weight polyethylene surface layer (2). A wear resistant, vibration damping retainer consists of an elastomer, thermoplastic and/or natural rubber molding (1) with a 10-500 microns thick surface layer (2) of polyethylene with an average molecular weight of 3.5-8.0 x 10<6> g/mol. An Independent claim is also included for production of the above retainer by softening an elastomer or thermoplastic elastomer using pressure and/or heat to form a plasticized material, positioning a 10-500 microns thick film of polyethylene with an average molecular weight of 3.2-8.0 (preferably 7.3-8.0)/*10<6> g/mol on a mold cavity base facing the mold riser and injection molding the plasticized material in the mold.
