PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for treating waste plastics with a coke oven in consideration of the present situation in which the treatment of the waste plastics adversely affects the global environment. SOLUTION: The characteristic of this method provided herein for treating waste plastics 4 is to comprise steps for charging the waste plastics 4 into a carbonization chamber of a coke oven, carbonizing the waste plastics 4, floating and separating products other than cake and a coke oven gas 12 obtained by the carbonization with a tar decanter 16, further separating the resultant floated and separated material 20 into aqueous ammonia 10 and an organic substance liquid by the first forced separator 22 and recovering the separated aqueous ammonia 10 and the organic substance liquid.
