A method and apparatus for the identification of syringes (10) containing medication utilizing a flip top lid (40) having a label (41) which may be removed from conventional medicine vials (30) and easily installed upon the plunger base (24) of a syringe (10). The flip top lid (40) may also optionally comprise a color coding system and/or a raised tactile feature on the outer surface to further aid in the identification of the medication. In addition, the medication itself may be labeled utilizing a color coding system for aiding in the identification of syringes.
