PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a new polynucleotide having high identity of a nucleic acid encoding a histidine kinase polypeptide containing a specific amino acid sequence, useful for searching an antibacterial compound, treating and diagnosing an infection with a bacterium of the genus Streptococcus. SOLUTION: This new isolated polynucleotide is a pplynucleotide having at least 70% identity of a polynucleotide encoding a polypeptide containing an amino acid sequence of the formula, 21 polynucleotide having at least 70% identity of a polynucleotide encoding the same mature polypeptide as that expressed by a histidine kinase gene contained in Streptococcus pneumonia of deposited strain, etc. The polynucleotide is useful for screening an antibacterial compound, treating and diagnosing an infection with Streptococcus pneumonia, etc. The polynucleotide is obtained by probing the chromosome DNA library of Streptococcus pneumonia with a partial sequence-derived labeled oligonucleotide. |
