The removal of acid constituents from circulation and surplus gases of coke dry cooling apparatus comprises washing out of the components by use of liquid reagents. A thinned solution of sodium hydroxide is used as a washout reagent. An Independent claim is included the apparatus for the above process, having at least one spray nozzle (2) for the washout reagent in a pipe segment constituted as a spray section (1). Preferred Features: The thinned solution of sodium hydroxide is sprayed with a stoichiometric excess against the gas stream to be cleaned, and is used subsequently (together with the washed out substances) in the coking process. The pipe profile preceding in the gas flow direction (8) of a centrally positioned spray nozzle (2) is made conically convergent by baffle plates (5). The spray section (1) slopes towards the gas flow direction, and has a bottom outlet funnel (6) close to its front end.
