<p>PURPOSE:To obtain a filter medium having superior characteristics by producing the filter medium as a filter medium for molten metal, such as molten Al, by subjecting a mixed raw materials consisting of ceramic grains and inorganic binding material of specific composition to molding and to burning. CONSTITUTION:As a filter medium for filtering and removing Al2O3 as solid inclusions and fine pieces of refractory existing in molten Al, 4-20 pts.wt. of inorganic binding material which has a composition containing 20-60wt.% Al2O3, <10wt.% SiO, and 10-50wt.% (B2O3+SiO2) and further containing the oxides of alkaline earth metals, such as Bed, MgO, CaO, SrO, BaO, and Cl2O3, and the oxides of rare earth elements and proper amounts of organic binder are mixed with 100 pts.wt. of at least one kind among the grains of refractory ceramics, such as Al2O3, SiC, Si2N4, and ZrO2. The resulting mixture is molded and burned. By this method, the porous filter medium for molten Al having >50kgf/cm<2> three point bending deflective strength, practically free from reaction with molten Al, and capable of withstanding long use can be produced.</p> |
