<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a new catalyst capable of producing methacrylic acid in a high yield by vapor phase catalytic oxidation of methacrolein. SOLUTION: An oxide contg. at least phosphorus, molybdenum and vanadium as constituents is heat-treated at temperatures of 200-450 deg.C in the presence of an inert gas contg. 0.01-30 vol.% at least one org. compd. selected from the group consisting of methyl alcohol, ethyl alcohol, propyl alcohol, butyl alcohol, acetone, methacrolein and isobutylaldehyde to produce the objective catalyst for production of methacrylic acid.</p> |
