PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a sustained release tablet of pseudoephedrine hydrochloride formed by dry granulation/direct compression method, comprising sustained- release hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose/matrix, a microcrystal cellulose disintegrator and a filler. SOLUTION: This method for producing a sustained release tablet comprises formulating an active ingredient with a lubricant to form a mixture, grinding the mixture, screening the mixture together with about 20-40% of a hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose having <9% hydroxypropyl content and <50 K molecular weight and about 25-50% of microcrystal to form a complex, mixing the complex, adding a lubricating agent to the complex to form a composition and subjecting the composition to direct compression to form a tablet.
