Memory read and write process for storing 8 bit words in 16 and 32 bit memories

The short words (B2i, B2i+1) are stored in the memory as groups of words to suit the word length of the memory (Wi), typically 16 or 32 bit. A virtual address is associated with each short word where the LSBs gives the position of the short word within the group (VADD) and the MSBs of the address translate into the conventional address (ADD) of the word group within the memory. Short word extraction is by reading the long word from memory and left or right shifting (C) to the short word.
