PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently and simply obtain the subject compound that is useful as a starting intermediate for a variety of chemicals as perfumes, medicines and the like through the shortened production steps by hydrolyzing esters or the like, adding an amine to the ester hydrolyzate, then adding an inorganic acid to adjust its pH. SOLUTION: (A) An ester or a lactone, for example, 4-dodecanolide (4-octyl-4- butanolide) or the like is alkaline hydrolyzed, preferably using sodium hydroxide at 10-80 deg.C, (B) the resultant reaction mixture is combined with an amine [for example, (S)-1-phenyl-2-(p-tolyl)ethylamine or the like], then (C) an inorganic acid as hydrochloric acid is added, preferably at 0-60 deg.C to adjust the pH, preferably to 5-10 to obtained the objective compound [(S)-1-phenyl-2-(p-tolyl) ethylammoniumγ-hydroxydodecanoate and the like]. |
